When Delhi burned for 3 days
When US President Donald Trump hailed India’s communal harmony, rich cultural and linguistic diversity in one part of Delhi. The northeastern part of the city saw the deadliest riots in last 25 years, killing 53 people and leaving many dead alive.
Delhi burned for 3 days, a clash that started on 23rd February between Pro and Anti CAA protestors, took a communal turn and the police failed to control the situation. Administration and the Police claimed the violence to be spontaneous but with media reports and through video footages it seemed to be a planned attack at a time when US President was in Delhi.
North East Delhi has history of seeing such barbaric acts in 1984 during Sikh genocide, 1992 riots and now in 2020. On the other side of Yamuna, families from both the communities have been living together for more than 4 decades, communal harmony and love is integral but politics of hate triumphed over love. Houses were burned, people were killed and no one bothered about love and integrity, hatred became a rule and not an option, a pattern seen since 2014.
If we draw a parallel between the film Kai Po Che and Delhi Riots, the scenario is similar. Omi (Amit Sadh) killed his best friend Ish (Sushant Singh Rajput) because enmity against the other community acted as blindfolds and he couldn’t see his love for Ish, in Delhi where people talk about “Hindu-Muslim Brotherhood” relations were dead.
